A Member of Parliament may always submit his/her resignation. In such a case the next candidate on the list of the party will be his/her successor.
In addition, a Member of Parliament may choose to join another party or to continue as an Independent Member. A Member of Parliament cannot be forced to resign. He/she was elected personally. This means that he/she is not bound by the views of his/her party. A Member can opt to return the seat to the party or continue as an Independent Member forming his own faction.
Membership of Parliament lapses through an uninterrupted stay outside the country of more than eight months, loss of the requirements for membership or fulfillment of an incompatible function.
