Continuation urgent Public meeting of Parliament regarding discussion on the role and authority of the Ministry of Education regarding school boards and the process regarding reporting of incidents to the Ministry of ECYS

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The House of Parliament will sit in an urgent Public meeting on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

This urgent Public meeting, which was adjourned on August 25, 2022 will be reconvened on Thursday at 15.00 hrs. in the General Assembly Chamber of the House at Wilhelminastraat #1 in Philipsburg. The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (ECYS) will return to Parliament to answer questions posed by Members of Parliament in the first round.

The agenda points are:

1. Insight and discussion into the role and authority of the Ministry of Education with regards to the religious and other alternative school boards on Sint Maarten

2. Process regarding reporting of incidents involving school authority figures and students to the Ministry of ECYS (IS/1199/2021-2022 dated August 16, 2022)

This meeting was requested by MP M.D. Gumbs, MP R.A. Peterson and MP S.L. Duncan.

Members of the public are invited to the House of Parliament to attend parliamentary deliberations. All persons visiting the House of Parliament must adhere to the house rules.

The House of Parliament is located across from the Court House in Philipsburg.
