Erwin Romney Recipient of the President of Parliament Award 2020
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Erwin Romney was awarded the President of Parliament Award 2020.
A youth is awarded annually the President of Parliament Award for being a role model, demonstrating leadership skills as well as contributing to the community.
At the tender age of nine, Mr. Erwin Romney began his journey in making a difference for his country when he joined the first St. Maarten Boy’s Brigade. At the age of fourteen, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and at eighteen promoted to Sergeant. Twenty-two-year old Romney is the epitome of resilience, persistence and servant leadership. He has overcome personal odds on many fronts and is still overcoming, but his commitment to his growth, services and community development has allowed him to persevere against all odds. He is an ambitious, deep thinking young man who never hesitates to serve his fellow man and community. During his three-year tenure in Victorious Youth Wing (Y2X), he has proven to be a great learner who is always willing to go the extra mile.
This year’s President of Parliament Award 2020 was awarded by the Hon. President of Parliament Mr. Rolando Brison to Mr. Erwin Romney; this was done in a virtual setting at the conclusion of the Opening ceremony of the Parliamentary Year 2020-2021.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Romney shared how he had overcome many personal challenges through perseverance, and his faith in God. He encouraged his audience to never give up, as their reward will come. He ended by expressing gratitude to the Victorious Living Foundation, for submitting his application and the Parliament of Sint Maarten for awarding him this prestigious award.
